Thariqah Alawiyah

Thariqah Alawiyah is one of 41 thariqah mu’tabarah in the world. This thariqah was founded by Ahmad Bin Isa Allah SWT-Muhajir in the 17th century. His complete name is Imam Alawi bin Ubaidillah bin Ahmad al-Muhajir from Hadramaut Yaman, so that this thariqah is called Alawiyah. This thariqah also called Thariqah Haddiyah, related from Sayyid Abdullah Allah SWT-Haddad.
Thariqah Alawiyah is often related with Alawiyyin, saadah, or sayyid, the prophet Muhammad descent, the upper strata in Hadrami society. So, in the beginning, most followers of this thariqah were from sayyid clan. Thariqah Alawiyah has a special wirid and dzikir. That is, there is not a must for student of this thariqah to take oath. This thariqah can be joined by everyone. It is not necessary to slearn from the teacher or mursyid. Stressing of this thariqah deed is on behavior. It is very different with other thariqah, which stresses on hard deed. Because of its simple deed, this thariqah has many followers.
In the next development, this thariqah has two branchs, Thariqah ‘aidarusiyyah and Thariqah ‘Atthahisiyyah.

The beginning development of Thariqah Alawiyah
The development of Thariqah Alawiyah was begun by Muhammad bin Ali, or called Al-Faqih Al-Muqaddam, in the 6th and 7th Hijriah. In his era, Hadramaut city was mostly known at the golden era. Muhammad bin Ali was known as an Islamic figure that had much knowledge about islam. He had highest level of spiritual experience, Maqam Quthbiyah.
After Muhammad bin Ali passed away, this thariqah was continued by masyayikh. The famous thariqah were Syaikh Abdurrahman As-Saqaf (739 H), Syaikh Umar Allah SWT-Muhdhar bin Abdurrahman As-Saqaf (833 H), Syekh Abdullah al-‘Aidarus bin Abu Bakar bin Abd al-Rahman al-Saqqaf (880 H), dan Syekh Abu Bakar al-Sakran (821 H). These masyayikh had much influenced the characteristic of this thariqah.
Some characteristics of Thariqah Alawiyah:
First, there is a tradition of thought of defending salafi doctrines from Alawy figures, like Quthbaniyyah.
Second, there is elastic attitude to the developing thought, so that this thariqah is easy to socialize with the society.
Third, there are some thoughts, like jam’u, farq, fana’ and wahdah.
