Thariqah Qadiriyah was founded by Syeikh Abdul Qodir Jaelani (561 H/1166D.C). His complete name was Muhyiddin Abu Muhammad Abdul Qodir ibn Abi Shalih Zango Dost al-Jaelani. He was born in 470 H/1077 D.C. He spent 25 years as a shufi, to spread tasawuf, till he was known as a great tasawuf figure. Besides that, Abdul Qadir also led Islamic school and ribath in Baghdad. Thariqah Qadiriyah soon spread to Yemen, Turkey, Egypt, Africa and Asia. Even this thariqah has developed since 13th century, but it spread to the entire world in 15th century. In India, this thariqah was developed by Muhammad Ghawts (1517 D.C). He was Abdul Qadir Descent. In Turkey, was developed by Ismail Rummy (1041 H/1631 D.C). in Mecca, this thariqah has begun since 1180 H/1669 D.C.
Tarekat Qadiriyah is known very flexible. If a student reaches level of sheikh, he doesn’t have to follow his teacher, or mursyid. Abdul Qadir said, “If my student reaches the level of sheikh, he will be sheikh of himself, and Allah will be his leader”. Perhaps, because of its flexibility, there are many thariqahs include into thariqah Qadiriyah. In India there are some thariqahs, like Banawa, which developed in 19th century, Ghawtsiyah (1517D.C), Junaidiyah (1515 D.C), Kamaliyah (1584 D.C), Miyan Khei (1550 D.C), Qumaishiyah (1584 D.C), Hayat al-Mir. In Turkey are some thariqahs, like Hindiyah, Khulusiyah, Nawshahi, Rumiyah (1631 D.C), Nabulsiyah, Waslatiyyah. In Yemen, there are Ahdaliyah, Asadiyah, Mushariyyah, 'Urabiyyah, Yafi'iyah (718-768 H/1316 D.C) dan Zayla'iyah. In Africa there are thariqah Ammariyah, Bakka'iyah, Bu' Aliyya, Manzaliyah and thariqah Jilala.
Some deeds of thariqah Qadiriyah is saying "Laa ilaha Illa Allah" loudly, it is called naïf itsbat. After five time praying, istighfar 3 times or more, shalawat 3 times, Laailaha illa Allah 165 times. When saying Lha at the sentence of Lha ilaha illallah, we have to concentrate, with deep breath from stomach to brain. Then when saying ilaha, we have to turn our head right, and when saying illallah, we have to turn our head left.
To do this thariqah deeds, someone has to follow some steps.
First, bai’at, a student must meet his teacher, then the student pray 2 raka’ats (shalat muthlaq), continued by reading al-Fatihah to prophet Muhammad PBUH. Then the student sits in front of teacher and says istighfar, then the teacher will teach to say “La ilaha illallah”. Then teacher will say "infahna binafhihi minka", continued by reading verse mubaya’ah (Quran, Chapter Al-Fath:10). Then the student has to say “La ilaha illallah” 3 times. After that the teacher will give some advises to the student, then closed by praying (du’a).
Second, course step, this step needs a long process for many years, because the student will receive truth teaching. He has to fight his passion, and always do religios deed (mujahadah-riyadhah).
